Jonathan Keeton studied painting in London and theater in Paris before becoming a pioneer in digital visual effects for television, films and commercials. Many years later he returned to his first love of painting wilderness landscapes and night scenes.
Keeton enjoys painting with watercolor, gouache, oil and acrylic, depending on the needs of the piece. He especially enjoys painting nocturnal scenes which portray the solitude that comes with empty streets and dimly lit shops. He begins by taking his own photographs early in the morning when few people are out, so that he can capture the feeling of the moment. "Yes, they are moody. That's what I like about night scenes...that's when the light is most magical."
"We are more divorced from the natural world then at any time in our species' history; the average American spends 93% of their time indoors....I make paintings of the wilderness and in cities and little towns before dawn. These paintings bring to life that awe filled mystery of being alive on this planet."
