Doug West has always been fascinated with the beauty of nature. He expresses his love for the American Southwest in his richly hued serigraphs and paintings.
Born and raised in California, Doug describes his early life as a mixture of outdoor experiences including camping, hiking and swimming which gave him an appreciation for nature. After living and teaching in Hawaii for four years, Doug moved to the Southwest in the mid-1970's where he settled and began his career as a print maker and artist.
Doug West's distinctive images allow the viewer to contemplate the vastness and serenity of nature. He has created hundreds of richly hued hand pulled limited edition serigraphs over the years. Most of these editions have sold out but our gallery currently has the artist's own personal collection of these prints available for sale.
Doug West's beautiful panoramic landscapes are in the collections of IBM, the Smithsonian Institution, the US State Department and the New Mexico Museum of Fine Arts. His image, "Sanctuary", was chosen by the US Postal Service for the official New Mexico Centennial postage stamp. Doug West was selected for this honor out of all of the artists who live in New Mexico.
