At first sight, Ted Polomis’ small oil paintings appear almost photographic, however don’t be fooled by the artist’s genuine skill. Amidst the familiar subjects of antique toys in Ted Polomis’ paintings lies his interest in creating “harmonic little spaces to get away from the plastic of today’s world.”
Some of his favorite subject matter includes metal toys which were manufactured in the 1920s-30's. Though his paintings convey a slight sense of nostalgia and permanence, Ted Polomis’ dry sense of humor is evident in their titles.
In the tradition of the Dutch Masters, Ted Polomis’ still life paintings have a special glow.
“I always paint objects that I find captivating in some way, and worthy of close, repeated inspection. I prefer simple balanced setups that highlight my subjects while, at the same time, create a meditative and calming scene. My hope is that the collector will be as engaged by my paintings as I am with my subjects.”
