A nationally known artist, Barbara Hails explores the unique qualities of landscapes in her light-filled pastel paintings. The varied countryside, its seasonal mood changes, distinctive architecture and lush growth are recurring themes in her work.
It is the light in her paintings, which most people notice and remember. Applying pastel to ground glass museum board with an unusual technique, Barbara is able to capture bright sunshine and rich translucent shadows in her landscapes. Light presents the challenge, which keeps her fascinated with painting.
Barbara Hail's unique art has drawn attention since she began exhibiting in 1975. The National League of American Penwomen named her Outstanding Artist of the Year. Barbara's works have been selected for exhibitions nationwide, including the National Arts Club, Artexpo NY, the prestigious Butler Institute of American Art, and internationally by the Societe Des Pastellistes de France at Palais Rameau in Paris.
Acknowledged as one of America's outstanding pastelists, she is an elected member to the Pastel Society of America, Maryland Pastel Society and Artists' Equity. Her work appears in numerous public and private collections including IBM, Marriott, the Readers' Digest Corporation, Gannett and Riggs National Bank.
